Current Narrative:
DVR and the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) recently partnered to develop a stakeholder group known as the Cross-Agency Collaborative on Transition to explore strategies and opportunities to best meet the needs of out-of-school youth. The collaborative includes not only staff from the Office of Drop-Out Prevention and Student Re-Engagement at CDE, but also Workforce Programs, Career & Technical Education, Employment & Training staff focusing on the development of Career Pathways, and the Colorado Workforce Development Council staff. Additionally, DVR takes an active role in state youth groups and committees to support ongoing collaboration between community agencies in the provision of services to out–of–school youth, such as the State Youth Council. The State Youth Council includes representatives from various partners serving youth, such as Division of Youth Corrections, Department of Human Services, Foster Care, local Workforce Development Boards, non-profit agencies supporting youth employment, Job Corps, other community organizations focusing on the needs of youth, and youth leaders. Participation in these groups and committees promote better coordination of services and shared resources at both the state and local levels. Participation and involvement allows DVR to participate in the development of processes, procedures, guidelines and practices for more effective transitioning planning and services throughout Colorado’s multiple areas and systems. DVR continues to explore opportunities for better partnership and develops formal agreements when appropriate.
