k. 1. The number of individuals in the State who are eligible for services
Current Narrative:
Per the 2020 Annual Disability Statistics Compendium, approximately 374,607 individuals with disabilities ages 18-64 were living in Louisiana in 2019. To qualify for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services, individuals with disabilities must be interested in obtaining or maintaining employment. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2019 the unemployment rate for persons with disabilities was 7%, more than twice the rate of those with no disability (3.6%). To be included in this rate, the person with a disability was unemployed, available for work and was actively looking for a job in the 4 weeks prior to the survey. Although, it would be difficult to determine how many individuals with disabilities would be eligible, based on these statistics, 8% or 29,695 of these individuals would be actively seeking employment in FFY 2023 and could potentially be eligible for VR services, including supported employment. This does not include the numbers that have been looking for work more than 4 weeks prior, so the number could be much greater.
