n. 2. A. The provision of extended services for a period not to exceed 4 years; and
Current Narrative:
DVR has developed policies and procedures to allow for the provision of extended services for youth with the most significant disabilities for a period not to exceed 4 years. DVR’s electronic case management system also ensures that funds reserved pursuant to section 603(d) are appropriately expended and these expenditures accurately tracked.
Extended services are ongoing support services and other appropriate services that are needed to support and maintain an individual with a most significant disability in supported employment. Typically, another agency, the employer, or other source of support provides and funds these services. For youth through age 24, DVR may fund these services for a period not to exceed 4 years when no other funding source is available. During this time, the DVR Counselor works closely with the individual and his or her support system to determine alternate funding and the funding will shift to the non-DVR funding source, most often Medicaid HCBS waivers, once the resource is available. If DVR is funding extended services, the VR case remains open to allow for DVR to arrange for and monitor the services. To date, few individuals have had a need for DVR to fund extended services. Therefore, the reserve has been utilized almost entirely to provide supported employment services to youth.
