As members of the Baby Boom generation continue to retire and leave the workforce there will be fewer people able to fill the current job openings in Colorado. This will create opportunities for older workers in the workforce. Specifically, businesses are recognizing the value of older workers and the cost savings that can be attributed to employing people with many years of work experience.

Colorado’s diverse economic base and low unemployment indicate positive prospects for a variety of industry sectors that require the expertise and experience that older workers can provide. Throughout the country, demand for education and healthcare services workers will continue to grow. Teachers and healthcare workers of all levels are needed to meet this demand. Specifically, Colorado’s scenic attractions, numerous gaming facilities, and Denver’s status as a destination location will increase employment in the tourism, hospitality, and transportation industries.

There are many opportunities for our older workers in Colorado, and based on the participant’s physical ability, education, and desire to learn the participant will be directed to jobs opportunities that meet their specific needs. Job opportunities include, working as an administrative assistant in a law or accounting office. Jobs, working in the health care field in hospital guest services, or receptionist in doctor’s offices. The jobs may also be working in retail in one of our many tourist communities, or being a host/hostess or server in a restaurant. Working with the states homeless communities, in food banks and shelters to help make others lives better.
