e. 4. D. Providing State merit staff outreach workers professional development activities to ensure they are able to provide high quality services to both jobseekers and employers
Current Narrative:
LEO-WD provides professional development training to AELs through Workforce GPS, the MWAs, the SMA, and other state and national training organizations, such as Polaris Project, US EEOC, Michigan Department of Civil Rights, IMSC, MRCs, and the Michigan Department of Civil Service-E-Learning Center.
In addition, workforce programs convene monthly to gain knowledge about the entirety of services, as well as to engage in the development of policies and procedures. LEO-WD has a comprehensive professional development program for AELs to ensure they can provide high-quality services to both job seekers and employers. This program will include the following strategies:
- Pre- and Post-Peak Season Conference: Bi-yearly conference will be conducted to keep the staff updated on the latest trends and best practices in employment services. The training includes workshops that will cover a wide range of topics, from employment law, employment services, health services, effective communication and customer service skills to understanding labor market trends and job matching techniques.
- Online Learning Modules: The State will provide access to online learning resources. These modules will allow staff to learn at their own pace and convenience and will cover essential topics related to employment services.
- Peer Learning and Mentoring: The State will encourage peer learning and mentoring among the staff. Experienced staff members will mentor newer or less experienced staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Performance Evaluation and Feedback: Regular performance evaluations will be conducted to assess the staff’s skills and competencies. Constructive feedback will be provided to help them improve their service delivery.
- Participation in Conferences and Seminars: Staff will be encouraged to attend relevant conferences and seminars. This will provide them with opportunities to learn from experts in the field, and to network with their peers from other regions or states.
By implementing these strategies, LEO-WD aims to equip its AELs with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively serve job seekers and employers. This will ultimately contribute to the State’s goal of promoting employment and economic growth.
