Current Narrative:

West Virginia Adult Education strives to focus professional development on skills instructors require to address student’s needs and challenges to help students learn and raise achievements. The quality of professional development provided will be assessed by reviewing various data reports and the student achievement reports available in the state management information system. Student outcomes, achievements, successes, and measurable skill gains are monitored by staff and program administrators for each class.  Students are asked to complete a Satisfaction Survey before exiting the program to provide feedback on the program, to inquire if their goals and needs were met, and suggestions to improve the quality of the program.

All professional development training sessions, online courses, and conferences are evaluated. Presenters and training teams review the evaluations, consider feedback, and adjust as needed. A comprehensive statewide needs assessment is utilized to determine professional development areas of need and/or improvement. Those identified areas are addressed regionally and at the annual West Virginia Adult Education Association, Inc. (WVAEA) statewide conference where guest speakers and selected trainers present creative and innovative research-based practices such as the essential components of reading instruction. Providers and instructional staff are encouraged to attend state and national conferences relating to adult education to further enhance their knowledge-base and program. All professional development is tracked via the state management information system, where reports can be generated to identify non-compliance with state mandated requirements.

To ensure the quality of adult education programs, the state will employ a comprehensive approach involving program monitoring, data analysis, and program monitoring.  Through regular evaluations, we will assess various aspects of program effectiveness, including student outcomes, instructor performance, and overall program impact.  Data analysis will provide insights into trends, areas of improvement, and best practices.  Program monitoring will involve ongoing oversight to ensure compliance with standards and identify areas needing attention.  This information will be used to enhance the quality of adult education activities statewide.  Findings from evaluations and data analysis will inform targeted interventions and adjustments to program delivery. Program monitoring will enable prompt identification of issues and proactive measures to address them, ensuring adult education programs consistently meet quality standards.
