Current Narrative:
LRS collaborates with private nonprofits on information sharing of resources for people with disabilities. Some nonprofit collaborations include Families Helping Families (FHF) Centers, Community Independent Living (CIL) Centers, and The Arc of Louisiana. FHF, a statewide network of regional nonprofit resource centers, assist individuals and families who experience disabilities. Regional FHF Centers provide information on how to access and utilize employment services, family-to-family support, resource referrals, training, transition services, and more. The CIL Centers include New Horizons Independent Living Center, Southwest Louisiana Independence Center, and Resources for Independent Living. The CIL Centers provide advocacy, assistive technology, information and referral, peer mentoring, skills training, transition services, transportation, and more. The Arc of Louisiana advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to promote inclusion, self-advocacy, and self-determination. There are local Arc Chapters who provide supports and services to families statewide. Through these collaborative efforts with private nonprofits, families and individuals are referred to LRS to receive assistance to obtain and maintain competitive integrated employment; and LRS consumers can utilize these additional resources and services to lead independent self-sufficient lives.
