Current Narrative:

The Alabama Department of Mental Health is the state agency responsible for providing mental health services.  Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Supported Employment is a collaborative effort between the Alabama Department of Mental Health and the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services to serve individual with severe mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorder. We currently have three IPS programs in Alabama, Central Alabama Wellness, formally known as Chilton Shelby Mental Health (rural site), AltaPointe Health in Mobile and Carastar Health, formally known as Montgomery Area Mental Health Authority (both urban areas). In early 2024, the IPS Program will be expanding to Indian Rivers (Tuscaloosa) and Jefferson-Blount-St. Clair Mental Health Authority, also known as JBS, (Birmingham), which are both urban areas. The memorandum of agreement with the ADMH and ADRS includes roles and responsibilities (including fiscal responsibilities) and measurable objectives. ADRS benefits counseling staff work in collaboration with IPS staff coordinating services and providing additional support.
