Current Narrative:

A. Providing Full Range of Employment and Training Services to the Agricultural Community through the One-Stop Delivery System

In order to meet Louisiana’s agricultural employer’s needs, Louisiana Workforce Commission will continue to improve the agricultural referral process by:

-providing employers with industry information and research, farmworkers’ rights, and support services.

-ensuring workers referred through the agricultural recruitment system meet all the job requirements and are job-ready when arriving at the job site.

The Migrant and Seasonal Farm Worker Program is designed to enhance and expand services to meet the needs of the agricultural industry. Louisiana will provide services to agricultural employers by effectively providing information about services available through the workforce development system and, at the same time, obtaining sufficient information about the employer’s needs to provide appropriate services. The State Monitor Advocate and the Outreach worker will continue to conduct meetings with large growers and farm labor contractors to facilitate the exchange of information and maximize the effectiveness of the program. Staff will promote the use of the American Job Centers to recruit workers by helping employers assess their labor needs and making appropriate referrals to their job openings.

One-Stop Centers will coordinate the services of one-stop partners, community based organizations, the state MSFW Outreach Worker, MSFW groups, state cooperative extension service, and parish (county) agents, and other agencies and organizations to do the following:

1. Conduct presentations on One-Stop services.

2. Encourage agricultural employers to utilize the Agricultural Recruiting System (ARS),

3. Promote the hiring of MSFWs to employers in all sectors, including agricultural,

4. Offer to distribute their information pamphlets during outreach contacts and provide materials for them to distribute to MSFWs,

5. Advise them of all employment changes affecting their community.

The Outreach Worker will continue an ongoing relationship with the LA Farm Bureau Federation and participate in its annual Mid-South Labor Seminar, providing materials and conducting presentations on MSFWs labor issues.
