j. 1. E. Who are youth with disabilities and students with disabilities, including, as appropriate, their need for pre-employment transition services or other transition services.
Current Narrative:
The CSNA consistently highlighted opportunity for continued improvement with the availability and coordination of transition and pre-employment transition services. In particular, many families indicated they simply were unaware of the services available through DVR and indicated they most learned about DVR through other families rather than from the school district or directly from DVR. Some stakeholders expressed concern in being able to coordinate services effectively with DVR due to staff availability. In fact, only 20% of stakeholders reported that transition services were consistently coordinated and organized between the local school district and DVR. Some families also expressed concern about the quality of providers available to provide transition services. Work Based Learning Experiences and Workplace Readiness Training continue to be the pre-employment transition services that are most frequently sought by students with disabilities. Supported employment, job development and placement, and job coaching were identified as the most important services for students and youth with disabilities to be successful in employment. Work Based Learning Experiences and Work Place Readiness Training were identified as the most important pre-employment transition services for students to prepare for employment.
