a. 1. Discuss long-term projections for jobs in industries and occupations in the State that may provide employment opportunities for older workers. (20 CFR 641.302(d)) (May alternatively be discussed in the economic analysis section of strategic plan.)
Current Narrative:
In Louisiana, there are several industries and occupations that may provide employment opportunities for older workers based on long-term projections. Below are some prominent sectors and occupations :
1. Healthcare Industry: The healthcare sector is expected to see sustained growth due to aging demographics and ongoing demand for medical services. Opportunities may exist for older workers in roles such as registered nurses, nursing assistants, medical administrators, and home health aides.
2. Education and Training: With ongoing retirements and turnover in the education sector, there may be openings for older individuals in teaching, tutoring, and administrative positions within schools, colleges, and adult education programs.
3. Accommodation and Food Services: This industry can be a good fit for older workers who have strong interpersonal skills and organizational abilities. Positions in this industry consist of the following: Front Desk Clerk (hotels, lodging establishments), Kitchen staff (food preparation, kitchen organization), and Restaurant Host/Hostess.
5. Financial Services: As the state's economy grows, there may be an increased demand for financial advisors, banking professionals, and insurance agents, roles that often benefit from the experience and established networks of older workers.
6. Remote Work and Telecommuting: Given the rise of remote work and telecommuting arrangements across various industries, older workers may find opportunities in fields such as customer support, virtual assistance, consulting, and online education.
The industry and Occupational Projections (Table 1) shown below provides the projected industry growth from 2020 through 2030: Health care and social assistance (adding10,465 jobs), Accommodation and Food Services (adding 29,684 jobs), Educational Services (adding 4083 jobs), Finance and Insurance (adding 1817 jobs).

The “Long-term Industry Projections for Top Occupations to 2030 Based on Education and Training” shown below reflect the growing need for training and continual workforce development efforts that focus on new, high-skill jobs. As previously shown, the industries with the most constant growth are Accommodation and Food Services, Manufacturing, Health Care and Social Assistance, and Retail Trade. These industries consist of jobs such as Food Preparation Workers, Cashiers, customer service Representatives, Home Health Aides, Nursing Assistants, Office Clerks, Janitors, Personal Care Aides, Registered Nurses, Waiters/Waitresses, Laborers/Freight Stock, and Maintenance/Repair Workers etc. Many of the employment opportunities are suitable for older workers; however, some may require additional training or education.
